Blackfoot River Fishing Report + Rating

3/5

April 19, 2024

The Blackfoot is dropping and clearing.  Monture Creek is still a bit dirty, but the whole Blackfoot is fishable.  Nymphing is your go to method right now.  Look for drop offs and you’ll find fish.  TJ Hookers, Rubberlegs, 20 Inchers, Double Bead Stones, Jig PT’s, Perdigons and San Juans.  Skwala’s are still an option and as the water continues to drop, even more so.  We should start to see more and more Gray Drakes, March Browns and BWOs, especially on the cloudy days.  Be ready with them in your fly box.  Streamer fishing is always an option in these conditions with Dungeons, Dali Lama’s, Rusty Trombone’s, Goldies and Jaw Breakers.

1/2 off Friday’s are still happening, every Friday all year long. (1/2 off your first dozen dries or nymphs)

Montana SNOTEL Current Snow Water Equivalent % of Normal

SWE is an acronym for Snow Water Equivalent, signifying the quantity of liquid water present in snow. Essentially, if you were to take a certain snow depth and melt it, the resulting water height would be representative of the SWE. This is how we can predict river flows and water levels for fishing season.
