Grizzly Hackle Guide David Hufman on Fall Fishing Near Missoula

Montana Fly Fishing, Bitterroot Brown TroutVeteran Grizzly Hackle Guide David Hufman intimately understands and knows every stretch of river around Missoula, Montana. Whether it is the Big Blackfoot River, the upper or lower Clark Fork, or the fabled Bitterroot River, David knows every bend and hole, but as of late he is really enjoying the big trout and great hatches of the Bitterroot River. This time of year we still have tricos, we are seeing mahoganies, blue wings and some October caddis and fish are still eating an occasional hopper. David has been using a lot of hopper-dropper rigs lately as well and clients are landing some very nice fish. This picture was taken a few days ago with what David exclaims as the “fattest” brown trout he has seen in some time. The fish was taped at 24 inches but was so fat and the brown trout signature red spots seem to be as big as your fingernail. Nice fish David and client! The fall fishing is just getting going and we expect hatches to continue with this cool weather. We are also looking at fish now hammering your favorite streamer pattern. Not much more fun than pulling a streamer this time of year! We love fall! David’s advice, “Go Fish!”
