Blackfoot River Fishing Report + Rating
3/5
December 23, 2024
The Blackfoot is seeing the most winter of all our rivers at this point. It’s still fishable, but there is some ice in spots as the nights are still getting pretty cold. Sub-surface is about the only way to go at this point and look for fish to be in the slower walking speed water. Nymphing with TJ Hookers, Front St. Stones, Rubberlegs, Perdigons, Jig Princes and San Juans is the best way to get into fish. Streamer fishing is a great way to get into a really big fish right now. You might not get into many fish, but the fish will be good ones. Smaller white, olive or black seem to be what the fish are looking for. Use a sink tip or sinking leader and a fly with weight on it. Slow your strips down or just swing them. Don’t forget to strip set!
1/2 off Friday’s are still happening, every Friday all year long. (1/2 off your first dozen dries or nymphs)
