Our “Stay & Fish” packages are without a doubt the best way to experience fly fishing in Missoula. If there is one thing we have in common at our Missoula fly shop, it’s that we’re all proud of where we live. From the world-class fly fishing and access to the outdoors to our downtown scene and community events, there’s no place we’d rather be. That’s why we are so excited to share a little slice of what our town has to offer!

About Our Montana Guided Fly Fishing & Lodging Packages

Our “Stay and Fish” packages showcase our version of the unique Montana experience that is the pride of all Missoulians. Fly fish with our friendly and knowledgeable Missoula fly fishing guides and stay in our comfortable and conveniently located Dry Fly Apartments, a stone’s throw away from the best restaurants, breweries and entertainment in the “Garden City.” Started in 2019, our Dry Fly Apartments have quickly become the preferred place to stay in Missoula for anglers, visitors or those simply looking for a weekend away.

The proximity and access to multiple world-renowned trout streams is what makes fly fishing in Missoula unique. Missoula is centrally located at the confluence of the Clark Fork, Bitterroot, and Blackfoot Rivers. From the back porch of our Missoula fly shop, you overlook the Clark Fork River, the lifeblood of our town. Head east from Missoula and you will cross the mighty Blackfoot River before finding yourself along one of the most charming trout streams in the West, Montana’s Rock Creek A.K.A. wade fisherman’s paradise. The Bitterroot River, which boasts impressive dry fly fishing season to season, flows into Missoula from the south. Wild rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout fill these freestone streams and readily take flies, beckoning anglers from around the world to travel to Missoula and try their hand at our special fishery.

Yet, it’s not the fly fishing alone that keeps anglers coming back to Missoula. Our vibrant, young town hosts excellent concerts and shows, nightlife, and dining, but is still reminiscent of the nostalgic, “old-school” Montana we all know and love. There’s no better way to get a taste for both than staying downtown at our Dry Fly Apartments.

Stay & Fish Packages: What to Expect

A typical day for our guests starts with a cup of coffee overlooking Caras Park and the quiet streets of downtown Missoula. In the summer months, Caras Park is the hub for community events including farmers markets, brewfests, and weekly gatherings with local music and food vendors. Walk downstairs from our second-story apartments to meet one of our friendly Missoula fly fishing guides for a day on the water. Our guides provide a simple, fish-filled “get in and go” type of trip. Simply show up with your fishing license and a smile and let your guide take care of the rest. Included is all the gear you will need for the day, transportation, lunch and beverages. Once on the water, our guides provide instruction and coach you through some amazing fly fishing. Regardless of skill level, you can be sure that you will return from your trip with fishing stories to tell and new tricks to try out on your own.

After you return from a day on the water, take a siesta in your comfortable, clean room before choosing from a dozen local restaurants steps away from our front door. The diverse selection of dining options available in Missoula is like that of a much larger city, yet much more welcoming and accessible. Several local favorites are within earshot of our Dry Fly Apartments, including the Top Hat Lounge, Biga Pizza, and Notorious P.I.G. BBQ. Esteemed steakhouse, 1889, and mind-blowing Thai restaurant, Zoo Thai, are also on Front Street. Needless to say, you won’t go hungry (nor far!) while staying at our Dry Fly Apartments.

While the night is still young, head to one of Missoula’s numerous local breweries and bars. If there’s two things Missoulians know well, it’s fishing and beer. Missoula’s spirited downtown features a wide variety of nightlife options. From tasting rooms to watering holes, there’s a spot for you. Cranky Sam Public House, The Rhino and Montgomery Distillery are all less than 100 yards from our shop and are sure to have one, or more, drinks you can’t live without.

Round off your trip to Missoula by attending the finest concerts and sporting events found in Montana. Logjam Presents, a local event promoter that calls Missoula home, works with three beautiful venues that draw talent and concert-goers from across the country. In the summer months, Logjam Presents’ “Summer Concert Series” brings dozens of acts to the Kettlehouse Amphitheater, nestled along the Blackfoot River. Listen to your favorite artists, enjoy excellent local beer and spirits, and gaze up at the “Big Sky” in this wonderful, open-aired venue.

In and around Missoula you’ll find numerous hiking and biking trails. Visible from our fly shop is the famous “M” Trail, overlooking the University of Montana campus and Clark Fork River. A short, yet steep trail, the “M” leads thousands of tourists and locals alike to the top of Mount Sentinel, providing a charming vista of the campus, river and Missoula Valley. What better way to start your morning than a walk up the “M” followed with pastries at one of Missoula’s several local bakeries.

But if sports are more your thing, then hop across the river to Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Home to the University of Montana Football team, Washington-Grizzly is commonly referred to as one of the loudest and proudest football stadiums in the West. It’s the greatest show in Montana, and a great way to round out a fall trip to Missoula. Because what’s better than football, good beer and better fly fishing?

There are more than enough reasons to visit Montana, yet nothing gets us more excited than a Missoula fly fishing trip. You could fish everyday for weeks in Missoula without fishing the same stretch of water. Our access to vast public lands, numerous waterways  and sheer amount of wildlife is what make Missoula unique. There are simply too many things to see and fish in Missoula. That being said, our guests come for the fly fishing, but return for the excellent dining, entertainment and unwavering Missoula charm.
