CURRENT CONDITIONS
The Bitterroot is still going through runoff. Very big and off-colored at the moment, although cooler weather over the last week has dropped the flows considerably. Big nymphs like stonefly nymphs, worms and streamers will be the way to go. The Bitterroot is still to big to wade safely, but fishing tight to the bank or in slow inside-banks will be the way to go. Alternatively, lakes are open and there's always the Missouri River.
Looking Forward
Runoff will last for at least another few weeks. If we get some cold weather for a few days the river will drop and there will be a small window of good nymphing. This Saturday, May 17th, is opener for small creeks and tributaries in western Montana! Great time to go check out smaller, clear-colored creeks.
FLOATERS BEWARE
Lots of trees are down again this year and a few places are dangerous. Give our Missoula fly shop a call for up-to-date information. 1/2 off Friday’s are still happening, every Friday all year long. (1/2 off your first dozen dries or nymphs)
