CURRENT REPORT

The Clark Fork has dropped quickly following last week's heavy rains. Clarity has really improved and the fishing has been really consistent. Lots of water in the Clark Fork right now... and we're grateful for it!
Goldenstones, PMDs, yellow sallies and lots of caddis hatching now consistently.

While the upper Clark Fork is starting to get low and weedy, the Clark Fork through and west of town has been stellar. Most anglers fishing with dry-dropper rigs on the Clark Fork. Focus on the goldenstone uptop for this rig. We love the high-floating, easy-to-see patterns like the Chubby Chernobyl, Water Walker, True Golden, and Supa-Dupa Stone. Think sizes #08-12. Tan, gold and purple have worked well.

Subsurface, first focus on stonefly nymphs like Pat's RLs, Explosion Stones, Twenty Inchers, TJ Hookers and Zirdles. Blowtorches, Shuck Its, Frenchies, Jig PTs and Prince nymphs all producing, too, especially as the day goes on. Start your dropper deep in the 3-5' range and adjust as the bugs start to move around. Focus on the eddies, riffles and buckets to find fish keyed in on nymphs. Keep your eyes peeled for fish rising to little dries in the afternoon and evening.

The dry fly fishing has really picked up around lunchtime, continuing through the evening. The beauty of this time of year is that it can be any or all of our summer hatches. That being said, PMDs and goldens likely the ticket first thing. Yellow sallies next, with caddis and PMD spinners in the evening. Naturally, there isn't one fly for all of these guys... be prepared with various stonefly dries, parachute mayflies and some caddis patterns for picky fish in the evening. We have the best selection of cripples, duns, spinners... you name it. Come down to the shop and see for yourself.

Often overlooked this time of year, the streamer fishing has been stellar on the CF. Yellow, white and olive have been the tickets. The Yellow Yummy, Rusty Trombone, Kreelex and Lil Kim have performed well.

Looking Forward

Lots of rain on the forecast this weekend. If it rains a ton, it will change conditions on the CF. If not, it looks like we should have some awesome dry fly fishing this weekend. Green drakes and PMD galore! Likely some epic streamer fishing, to boot.

Don't forget the Clark Fork this time of year! Often overlooked, June and July on the Clark Fork is special!
