CURRENT REPORT
Fishing is good "over the hill" right now. PMDs have tapered off for the most part. Tricos now the name of the game early morning. Nymphers nymphing everything but the kitchen sink. Frenchies, Duracells, Jig PTs, Psycho Mays, Zebra midges, Tung Tied, and caddis imitations like the weight fly, Spicy Squirrel and Hares Ears. Now is a great time to nymph a zirdle or squirdle on the Mo. Focus on the swift water when fishing "the big bug."
Don't be afraid to play with the depth of your rig as the day goes on. Short-leashing nymphs under small, delicate indicators is a great way to get spooky fish in shallow water.
Keep the dry fly rig ready while you're out there. Seems to be hit or miss most days, yet many dry fly opportunites presenting themselves for those looking for it. Fish looking up for tricos early. For these picky risers we like the Two-Wing Spinners, Twiggies, Trico Clusters and Poly-wing spinners. The hopper bite picking up on the Missouri. Fish a size #10 or #12 hopper like the Henneberry Hopper, Morrish Hopper or Sweetgrass Hopper along the bank.
Starting to get weedy on the MO', making streamer fishing frustruting if not impossible. Still, Thin Mint Buggers, Sparkle Minnows and Goldies producing fish stripped or swung.
