CURRENT REPORT
Recent cold weather has caused Rock Creek to drop and clear up significantly. Flows near Clinton just above 1000cfs and dropping. This will likely continue through the weekend, until forecasted high temperatures change it.
Nymphing and streamer fishing will be the most productive this week given the flows. Double Bead Stones, Front St. Stones, Rubberlegs, TJ Hookers, Blow Torches, Jig PTs and San Juans under a bobber/skwala dry will produce fish. Target the soft insides or along structure that creates a break from the high water.
Lots of March Browns hatching in the afternoon now. Targetting this hatch early is key. Use Jig Duracells and rusty brown-colored perdigons subsurface before these mayflies emerge as adults.
On top, make sure to have an assortment of mayfly dries. Some of our favorites have been the D&D Cripple, DL Cripple and Ms. Tickles. Brindlechutes, Purple Hazes and Adams are great, too.
Bighorn Buggers, Kreelex, Sparkle Minnows, Jig Zirdles and Micro-Dungeons are the streamers to have right now. Now is a great time to streamer fish Rock Creek, as baby trout and sculpin are scattered everywhere. Whether it's a sink-tip or a heavy streamer, you need some weight to give yourself a shot.
Looking Forward
The warm weather will bring the Creek up later this week. We'll keep you updated.
