CURRENT REPORT
A Drought Closure (fishing prohibited 24 hours) is in effect for the North Fork Blackfoot River from USFS boundary downstream to Highway 200 starting September 10.
Wade anglers and floaters alike finding success on the Blackfoot right now. Good fall fishing should continue on the Blackfoot through the next month if the conditoins persist.
Not much hatching on the Blackfoot due to some recent tough weather. BWOs hatching intermintently in the afternoon, providing a small dry fly window.
Focus on nymphing or streamer fishing. Subsurface, focus on Front St Stones, TJ Hookers, Jig Duracells, Jig PTs, Prince Nymphs, SJ Worms and natural-colored peridgons. For the handful of risers, we love the Ms. Tickle Cripples, Flash Cripples, and Film Critics for picky risers on the Blackfoot.
Streamer fishing is a great option either in the morning, evening or between hatches. Strip or swing a Sparkle Minnow, Lil Kim, Dungeon or Shake and Bake. You may not catch a ton of fish on the bigger streamers, but you'll often move one or two that will make it count.
Looking Forward
Fall fishing up the Blackfoot will start to dwindle as it cools off in the Missoula area. Get out there now before winter creeps in!
