CURRENT REPORT
The Blackfoot is just starting to fish well, and has been a good option while our other rivers have bumped.
Sub-surface has been consistent with nymphs and streamers. Look for fish to be on the inside bends, slow drop offs and back eddies. TJ Hookers, Double Bead Stones, Rubberlegs, Jigglers, Sparkle Minnows, Jig Sculpins and San Juans are all flies to have right now. Nymph these flies deep and heavy, shooting for 4'-6'. Come midday, hang a small mayfly emerger like a Jig PT, Duracell, or On-Point Mayfly.
Not much for dry fly fishing up there right now, but keep your March Brown and BWO patterns handy. Some of our favorites recently have been the Ms. Tickle, D&D Cripple and the DL Cripple.
Now is a great time to throw a sizeable streamer on the Blackfoot. The recent bump in flows and snotty weather screams streamer fishing to us! We like the Dungeon, Shake & Bake and Slick Willy. However you prefer to do it (sink tip, splitshot, etc.,) you need get this fly in the zone quick and keep it there!
Looking Forward
The river should hopefully drop in the coming days. At the very least, clear up a bit. We'll keep you posted.
