CURRENT REPORT
Conditions and clarity are starting to improve on the Clark Fork. It should come into better shape over the weekend, as night-time temperatures drop/hover around freezing. We're starting to think about our wonderful spring hatches on the Clark Fork. Rumors of skwalas, March Browns and BWOs crawling around in town have kept us on the edge of our seat.
That being said, nymph and streamer fishing is still the name of the game. Staples like stonefly nymphs, hot worms, and small mayflies or midges subsurface will produce. Our favorites include the DB Stone, Front St Stone, TJ Hooker, Worminator, Fl. Squirms, and small natural-colored perdigons. Fish these nymphs deep in walking-speed inside bends and pools. The fish are lazy at best in the Clark Fork right now. They won't be holding in the quicker riffles and runs like they will later this spring. Nymph deep and focus on the right water and you'll have success on the Clark Fork right now.
On the Clark Fork, dead-drifting or swinging Sparkle Minnows, Mini Dungeons, Buggers and sculpin imitations will work. Think heavy jig or articulated streamers in natural colors.
