CURRENT REPORT

Great fishing over the Hill right now! Anglers are finding success with all fishing tactics: nymphing with various tactics, streamer fishing and dry-fly "huntin." Strong hatches of PMDs first in the day (still a few BWOs hanging around in spots) and lots of caddis in the afternoons.

Nymphing at a variety of depths with Wire Worms, Pheasant Tails, Split-case PMDs, Green Machines, Flamethrowers, Psycho Mays, Shuck Its and Wonder Bugs has been productive. Sow bugs like the Yum Yum, Epoxy Back Sow and Ray Charles have also been especially good upstream of Craig. Nymphers are finding success both focussing mid-river and short-leashing in shallow water and eddies.

Dry fly fishing has been stellar in the afternoon for those looking for it. Keep your favorite PMD and Caddis dries handy. Our favorites include the Ms. Tickle Cripple, Extended Body PMD Dun, Para-Wulff and Last Chance Cripple. Caddis like the X-Caddis, HF Caddis and Trans. Emerger have also been productive up-top. Light tippet and good drifts are necessary to fool these fish. Our leaders are at least 9ft long, tapering down to 4-6x.

Swinging and stripping streamers has proved productive. Kreelex and Sparkle Minnows, Peanut Envies, Dungeons and other heavy, quick-sinking flashy streamers will produce fish. Focus along the banks and along structure when streamer fishing the MO, but don't neglect the deep buckets and riffles mid-river.

Looking Forward

The Dearborn River is dumping in some "color," and should continue to for several days/a week (depending on conditons.) While not unfishable, your best fishing conditions will be found upstream of the Dearborn.

Get out there now to enjoy the excellent early-summer fishing on the Mo! We sure are!
