CURRENT REPORT
Hoot owl restrictions (fishing prohibited 2:00 p.m. to midnight) are in effect for Upper Rock Creek from the confluence of the West and Middle Forks to mouth of Stoney Creek starting July 29.
Fishing has been great throughout Rock Creek. Anglers finding them even in the busiest-of-spots. Sometimes all you need to do is get around the corner to find unpressured water and eager fish amidst summer crowds...
Hoppers, ants and spruce moths starting to work consistently. Fishing a nocturnal stone early has proven effective. Still a few caddis andPMDs keeping anglers busy and trout happy throughout the day.
Be prepared to fish up Rock Creek two ways: dry-dropper fishing and dry dropper fishing with smaller attractors.
In the evening, you'll see hatches of caddis and fish sipping PMD spinners close to dark.
Dry-dropper fishing has been the most consistent way to fish Rock Creek. Up top, reach for a Chubby Chernobyl, Water Walker, Henneberry Hopper or Juicy Hopper in sizes #10-14.
Subsurface, reach for a Pat's RL, Twenty Incher, TJ, Jig PTs, Hares Ears, Shuck-its, Duracells, purple perdigons and Blow Torches.
Spruce moths starting to catch fish mid-morning and on. Our favorites are the Para. Spruce Moth, Fat Head and Billy's Butterfly. Smaller dry flies like the Plan B, Stimulator, PMX, Purple Haze or Brindlechute in sizes #12-16 have been effective, too. Ants and beetles like the CFO Ant, Splitsville Beetles and Glitter Ant catching a lot of picky fish...
Streamer fishing has been great when the dry fly bite dwindles. Think small and flashy. Kreelex Minnows, Overcoats, Goldies, and Sir Sticks-a-Lots.
Looking Forward
Warm weather on the forecast. The best fishing will be early and late. The mid-day lull is real. We have much better water conditions on all of our area rivers than last year. The fish are happy and looking up!
