PREPARE FOR YOUR TRIP TO SUINDÁ LODGE
Your trip to Suindá Lodge places you on a section of the Upper Paraná that consistently kicks out healthy numbers of trophy fish. This is a clear-water arena defined by structure. You’ll be casting over intricate rock gardens where the current rips and the big fish hold. Keep your eyes peeled. The sandbanks near Itatí offer some of the most heart-stopping sight-fishing in the world. Watching a massive Dorado crash into a school of Sabalo in shallow water is a sight you will never forget. Get your casting arm ready—this is an active, adrenaline-fueled fishery.

FLY RODS
Focusing on larger Dorado and other species, be ready with an assortment of 7-9 weights and make sure to have backups. Here are our recommendations on what to bring:
- 9' 7-weight (for Pacú or Pirá Pirá)
- 9' 8-weight
- 9' 9-weight (for trophy fish)
FLY REELS
Ensure that your reel is made of machined aluminum and has a bomb-proof sealed drag system, and has a capacity of at least 100 yards of 30 lb. backing. Here are our recommendations:
FLY Lines
- Weight forward floating tropical fly line (matched to your rod's weight)
- 250-350gr (10 to 24 foot taper) sinking tropical fly line (for your 8wt)
*NOTE: DO NOT bring conventional cold-water floating lines. Our tropical weather makes them soft and gummy and therefore difficult to cast.
LEADERS & TIPPET
- Wire leader Material: 40lb. test.
- Fluorocarbon Leader Material: Up to 50lb. test
Dorado Leaders are usually 8-9’ long and are tapered down and finished off with a 12” bite tippet of 40lb. wire. (Dorado’s are very toothy)
Destination Fly Assortments
These fly assortments have been hand selected over the years and recommended by the Suindá Lodge team. Make it easy on yourself and pick up a curated assortment of flies.
Golden Dorado Flies
For larger Dorado, all flies should be tied on 2/0 and 3/0 hooks, while smaller Dorado can be take on 1/0-3/0.
APPAREL
You'll be thankful for high quality clothing that keeps the sun off your skin and keeps you fishing for your entire trip.
Fishing & Travel Packs
While you'll need a travel bag to carry your clothes and fishing gear, we recommend having a bag and/or wading pack for use in the boats to organize flies, leaders, tippet, and your essentials like sunscreen, tools, etc.
Tools & Accessories
From pliers to nippers and more. It's good to have a few useful tools on hand.
