Villa Mariá lodge

Villa María is the second of the De Las Carreras family lodges to established on the Río Grande, offering an intimate and specialized experience on the most productive pools of the lower river. Why Choose Villa Mariá Lodge

Choosing Kau Tapen means stepping into the birthplace of modern Sea-Run Brown Trout fishing. As the first lodge on the river, it secured a strategic location in the middle section of the Río Grande, where the best pools are found. The legacy of the fishery is unmatched, holding five world records and consistently producing fish in the 20- to 30-pound class. Beyond the records, the lodge offers a level of exclusivity and "water-per-angler" that is rare; with only two anglers and a guide per beat, you have four to eight pools to yourself, ensuring you never feel rushed and always have fresh water to cover.

The dual-river advantage is another primary draw. Guests at Kau Tapen fish both the legendary Río Grande and the Menendez River, which offers 22 miles of technical, spring-creek-style fishing where 20-pounders are frequently taken on floating lines. The Menendez is a "pleasure to fish," often serving as a perfect refuge when water levels on the main river fluctuate. This variety, combined with easy gravel-bottom wading and a rotation of world-class international and local guides, creates a technical yet accessible angling experience.

Finally, the hospitality at Kau Tapen is so refined that over 80% of guests are repeat visitors. The lodge was designed for maximum comfort, offering the rare luxury of en-suite single rooms for every guest, ensuring total privacy. After a day in the famous Tierra del Fuego wind, anglers can retreat to a full spa—complete with a sauna, jacuzzi, and Finnish steam bath—before enjoying a five-star meal. It is a place where the weight of history meets modern luxury, providing a "wholesome, organic" experience that remains the insider’s choice for serious trout hunters.
