Esteros del Iberá Reserve (from the Guaraní language, meaning “Bright Waters”) is one of South America’s most important freshwater reservoirs. Ranked as the second-largest wetland in the world after the Pantanal in Brazil, it’s also enormous. The area encompasses more than 3 million acres of flowing water—gin-clear creeks, shallows, lakes, swamps, and lagoons. Pirá Lodge, in northern Argentina’s Corrientes Province, strategically places anglers at the southern tip of the expansive wetland; a habitat-rich bottleneck where the marsh and Corriente River ecosystems converge. Here, the Dorado is king.

SUINDÁ LODGE

Suindá is a Dorado angler’s dream, strategically located near the town of Itatí, in the province of Corrientes.The region houses one of the most productive sections on the Upper Paraná River, a clear-water fishery that consistently kicks out good numbers of large Dorado. You’ll also sight-fish sandbank zones, where, when the conditions are right, colossal Dorado hunt Sabalo baitfish that seasonally congregate in big schools.

KAU TAPEN LODGE

Kau Tapen was the first fishing lodge on the Río Grande, opening its doors in 1984. Its name means “House of Fishing” in the Ona Language and here, in the heart of the Río Grande watershed, live the best pools on the river.If the walls of this magnificent lodge could talk, they would tell story after story of battles with huge trout over thirty-plus years.
